FAQ Frequently Asked Questions: Rainwater Tanks Tasmania
1. What types of water tanks do you offer?
We offer a range of poly water tanks in various sizes and shapes to suit residential, commercial, and rural needs. Our tanks come in both round and slimline styles to fit different space requirements and
aesthetic preferences. All our tanks are designed to be durable, UV-stable, and
resistant to the harsh Australian climate. In addition to water tanks, we also offer a variety of other products, including fire tanks, septic tanks, industrial tanks, portable diesel tanks, smart tanks, and troughs to meet a wide range of needs.
2. What is the average lifespan of a poly water tank?
Poly water tanks typically have a lifespan of 10 to 20 years, depending on maintenance and environmental conditions. However, we have been manufacturing poly tanks in Tasmania for over 25 years, and many of our tanks have proven to last well beyond this timeframe when properly maintained. Our tanks are built to withstand the harsh Australian climate, ensuring long-term reliability.
3. How do I choose the right size water tank for myneeds?
The right tank size depends on your water usage, the size of your property, and your rainfall area. We offer a range of sizes, shapes, and styles, including round and slim line tanks to suit different applications, from residential homes to large commercial or agricultural needs. A round tank might be ideal for larger properties with ample space, while a slimline tank can fit more compact spaces, such as urban backyards. Our team can help you assess your needs and recommend the most suitable tank based on your specific requirements, ensuring optimal performance and efficiency.
4. Are your water tanks safe for drinking water?
Yes, our poly water tanks are made from food-grade polyethylene, which is safe for storing drinking water. They are also BPA-free, ensuring that no harmful chemicals leach into the water. While the tanks are
safe for potable water, we recommend installing appropriate filtration systems
as part of your tank setup to ensure the highest water quality and prevent any
contaminants from entering the tank. This is especially important if the water is being used for drinking or cooking purposes.
5. How do I maintain my water tank?
Regular maintenance includes cleaning the inlet filters, checking for debris around the tank, and ensuring that the roof and gutters are free from blockages. It's also important to inspect the area around the base of the tank. Remove any grass, weeds, or other vegetation that may grow around the
base, as these can retain moisture and potentially undermine the stability of
the tank. Ensure the ground beneath the tank is firm and level to prevent shifting or settling. Additionally, inspect the overflow pipework to ensure it is clear and functioning properly, directing excess water away from the tank
and foundation. Periodic inspections are recommended to ensure the tank remains in good condition and functions properly.
6. Do you offer delivery and installation services?
Yes, we offer delivery to your site. However, we do not provide installation services or base preparation. You will require a licensed plumber or suitably qualified person to undertake the installation of the tank. Delivery terms and conditions apply. Please contact us for more details on delivery options and any specific requirements for your installation.
7. What is the warranty on your water tanks?
Our poly water tanks come with a 10-year warranty, ensuring long-lasting durability and peace of mind. This warranty covers defects in materials and workmanship under normal use. Please refer to the specific product details for more information on warranty terms and conditions. In addition, our steel fire tanks come with a 3-year manufacturer's warranty.
8. Are your water tanks eco-friendly?
Yes, our tanks are made from recyclable, UV-stable polyethylene, which is both environmentally friendly and long-lasting. All poly water tanks designed for drinking water must be manufactured from virgin-grade polyethylene to meet Australian standards, ensuring the highest quality and safety for potable water use. Additionally, we are committed to a future recycling program, ensuring that our tanks can be responsibly recycled at the end of their lifespan. By collecting rainwater in one of our poly tanks, you
can also help conserve precious water resources and reduce your reliance on
mains water, supporting overall sustainability.
9. How do I clean my water tank?
To clean your water tank, ensure that the inlet filter is cleaned regularly and that the tank is free of debris. It’s important to never enter the confined space of a water tank. Cleaning a tank internally should
only be performed by a professional water tank cleaning service, as they have the proper equipment and training to do so safely. We do not offer this cleaning service but can recommend reputable cleaning services in your area. Regular maintenance will help keep your tank in optimal condition and ensure the quality of your water.
13. Do I need a pump for a rainwater tank?
In most cases, yes, a pump is required to move water from your rainwater tank to your household or irrigation system. The pump helps to pressurize the water and provide sufficient flow for taps, toilets, and garden watering. However, in some limited applications where the rainwater tank is
positioned higher than the point of use, a gravity-fed system may be used without the need for a pump. The type and size of the pump (if needed) depend on your water usage and system requirements. We can help you choose the right solution for your needs.
12. What colours do your tanks come in?
We offer 26 colours available for our poly tanks based on the COLORBOND® range of colours. While the names of tank colours may differ, they will match the COLORBOND® shades. If you need help identifying a colour, please feel free to ask, and we’ll assist you in selecting the perfect match for your property. Steel fire tanks are available only in a Galvanised finish.
13. Are your tanks certified to Australian Standards?
Yes, our poly water tanks are independently certified to the Australian Standard AS/NZS 4766:2006 for Polyethylene Storage Tanks for Water
and Chemicals. This certification ensures that our tanks meet stringent safety, reliability, and quality standards for storing water. While other manufacturers may claim compliance, only those independently certified can guarantee their tanks meet these essential industry standards. Our tanks are certified by BSI (Licence: BSI BMP 713704), ensuring the highest level of performance and peace of mind.
