How to Prepare for My Tank Delivery

Helpful Tips from the Tankworld Tasmania Team

So, you’ve chosen your tank — now it’s time to get ready for delivery. At Tankworld Tasmania, we want your delivery experience to be smooth, safe, and stress-free. While water tanks are big and bulky, preparing your site properly makes a huge difference and ensures we can do our job efficiently. Here's everything you need to know.

First, What Can You Expect on Delivery Day?

Depending on the delivery option you've selected, our team will either:

  • Roll the tank off the truck and leave it on its side in a safe, accessible location on your property (Standard Delivery), or

  • Assist you with positioning the tank directly onto your prepared pad with your help (Position on Pad delivery – customer assistance required).

We’ll take care of getting the tank to your property and unloading it safely. The rest is a team effort — and a little planning ahead goes a long way.

Top Tips to Prepare for Delivery

1. Choose the Right Tank Location

Pick a spot that:

  • Has enough roof catchment area (for rainwater)

  • Is near your downpipes or pump power source

  • Is flat, level, and stable

  • Is accessible for a large truck and trailer (up to 19 m long × 3.5 m wide × 5 m high)

Also think about how you'll move the tank from drop-off point to final pad if you’ve chosen Standard Delivery. You may need lifting equipment or a few extra hands.

2. Clear the Delivery Access Area

Ensure the truck can get in and out easily. Before delivery day:

  • Remove low-hanging branches or overhead wires

  • Move cars, trailers, or obstacles from driveways or gates

  • Let us know if your site has tight corners or soft ground — we can arrange truck-only delivery (no trailer) if needed

We need a clear, flat 5 m × 5 m unloading area to operate safely.

3. Know How Much Help You’ll Need

For Position on Pad deliveries, you’ll need to provide helpers:

  • 590 L – 14,300 L Poly Tanks: 1 person

  • 10,000 L Fire Tanks: 1 person

  • 24,000 L Poly Tanks: 2 people

These helpers must be fit, able-bodied adults wearing enclosed shoes. If help isn’t available, delivery will revert to Standard Roll Off or may be rescheduled (fees apply).

4. Keep Everyone Safe

Our drivers will set up a 5 m safety exclusion zone around the truck. No children, pets, vehicles, or bystanders should be within this area during unloading. If the site is unsafe, the tank will be left nearby or the delivery may need to be rescheduled.

Common Pitfalls to Avoid

  • Unprepared tank pads – Make sure your base is solid, level, and oversized by 400 mm

  • Blocked access – Always check for tree branches, gates, or steep slopes

  • No help on site (for Position on Pad) – This will delay your delivery

  • Assuming we’ll lift the tank – We don’t supply cranes or lifting gear. If needed, organise this in advance.

What’s Included with Your Tank?

We include:

  • Pre-fitted inlet strainer and outlet

  • Separate overflow fitting and ball valve, handed over on delivery

Installation and plumbing are the customer's responsibility once the tank is on its pad.

After Delivery – Secure Your Tank

Tanks can roll or tip if not secured, especially in windy areas. Whether stored on their side or upright:

  • Chock & strap the tank to a fixed object

  • Avoid sloped or unstable ground

  • If upright and unplumbed, fill with a little water as ballast
